Home » 3-day trip to Cairo, Aswan & Abu Simbel by plane
The city is also known as the Land of Gold, as for thousands of years it served as a vast necropolis for the pharaohs and their treasures. The origins of Aswan are the Nubians, who make up 30% of the citizens and speak their Nubian language. The rest are Arabs who came after the Islamic invasion and speak the Arabic language. We have created an entire blog about the Nubian villages and culture.
The history of Aswan goes back to antiquity, when the city was known as Swenett and represented the gateway to the Nubian region. The city was a center for trade and commerce, and an important hub for the transport of goods between Egypt and the rest of Africa. Aswan was also famous for its granite quarries, which provided the stone for many of Egypt’s most famous monuments, including the Pyramids and the Sphinx.
In modern times, Aswan has developed into a popular tourist destination that attracts visitors from all over the world. The city is well known for its many historical monuments, including the Temple of Philae, the Unfinished Obelisk, and the Aswan High Dam. These monuments testify to the city’s rich history and culture and are a must-see for anyone interested in history and culture.
The best time to visit Aswan is during the winter months, from November to February, when the weather is mild and pleasant. During this time, temperatures are cooler and humidity is lower, making it an ideal time to explore the city and its many attractions. However, if you are looking for a more budget-friendly option, the summer months from June to August are also a good travel time, as prices are lower and there are fewer tourists.

Description for 3 Days trip to Cairo and Aswan
Day 1: Flight from Hurghada to Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx, Valley Temple and the Egyptian Museum & overnight stay at the hotel.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Hurghada and then driven to Hurghada Airport.
Your experienced German-speaking guide will meet you at Cairo International Airport (in front of the exit).
He will be holding a sign with your name or the name of our travel agency Memnon Reisen.
You will receive your welcome drink in the vehicle, such as cola and water.
The Pyramids of Giza
First, you will visit the Pyramids of Giza – Cheops, Chephren, and Mykerinos. After seeing these famous pyramids, you will explore the Valley Temple. From there, you will also enjoy a view of the Great Sphinx – the legendary guardian with the body of a lion and the head of King Chephren, standing next to the massive funerary complex.
There is the possibility to enter the Great Pyramid or one of the smaller pyramids, or to take a camel ride – however, this is not included in the tour price.
The Great Pyramid (Pyramid of Cheops)
The Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Cheops) is not only the most famous monument of this ancient site but also one of the most well-known monuments in the world. It was built by Pharaoh Cheops and was known to the ancient Egyptians as Ekhet Khufu (“Horizon of Cheops”).
According to Herodotus, 100,000 men worked on its construction for three months every year. The scale of this gigantic structure is breathtaking.
Without the rock foundation and the inner chambers, the Great Pyramid has a volume of 2.3 million cubic meters. Its base measures 227.5 meters and its vertical height is 137.2 meters.
Lunch
After visiting the pyramids, you will enjoy your lunch in a local restaurant.
After the meal, your guide will accompany you to visit the Egyptian Museum.
The Egyptian Museum
Enjoy a visit to the Egyptian Museum and learn from your guide many details about its history.
The museum is one of the most important landmarks in Cairo.
You will also discover the vibrant heart of Cairo at Tahrir Square, a significant square that has witnessed important turning points in Egypt’s modern history. Surrounded by museums and administrative buildings, it is a lively place where modern politics and tradition meet.
The museum displays a rare collection of over 250,000 genuine artifacts, dating back up to 5,000 years, including an exclusive exhibition dedicated to Tutankhamun – a collection of treasures, gold, and jewelry that lay buried in his tomb for over 3,500 years until it was discovered in the 1920s.
After your museum visit, you will be transferred to your hotel in Cairo.
Flight to Aswan
Your guide will then accompany you to Cairo Airport, where you will take your flight to Aswan.
Arrival in Aswan
Your guide will welcome you at Aswan International Airport (in front of the exit).
He will be holding a sign with your name or the name of the tour operator “Memnon Reisen.”
You will be transferred in a private air-conditioned vehicle and will receive your welcome drinks such as cola and water.
Your guide will also inform you of the pick-up time for Abu Simbel.
Day 2: Visit of Abu Simbel Temple and overnight stay at the hotel.
Early in the morning, around 3:00 AM, you will drive with your Egyptologist in a private, air-conditioned vehicle to one of Egypt’s most important tourist attractions – the Temple of Abu Simbel (about 3 hours each way).
The Temples of Abu Simbel, located in southern Egypt near the border with Sudan, are among the most magnificent monuments in the world and embody both the grandeur of ancient Egypt and the technical achievements of modern engineering.
Carved into a mountainside in the 13th century BC, the temples serve not only as a lasting monument to Pharaoh Ramses II and his queen Nefertari, but also as a testimony to the ingenuity of both the ancient and modern man.
Afterwards, you will be transferred to your hotel in Aswan.
Day 3: Visit of the Temple of Isis in Philae, the High Dam, and the Unfinished Obelisk
You will be picked up from the hotel around 9:00 AM:
With your guide, you will visit the Aswan High Dam, the Temple of Philae, and the Unfinished Obelisk.
The Aswan High Dam was built across the Nile near Aswan, a city in southern Egypt. The idea of building a dam at this location dates back to the early 1900s, but it was only in the 1950s that the plan was realized with the support of the Egyptian government under President Gamal Abdel Nasser. Nasser saw the dam as a way to control the Nile floods, generate enormous amounts of hydroelectric power, and boost agricultural production through improved irrigation.
Construction began in 1960 with significant financial assistance from the Soviet Union, which provided both financial aid and technical expertise. The project was a massive engineering undertaking that required the relocation of more than 40,000 workers and entire communities, including the famous Temples of Abu Simbel, which were moved to higher ground to prevent flooding.
Lunch will be served in a good restaurant.
Then you will continue to the Temple of Philae and the Unfinished Obelisk:
Today, the Temple of Philae is a preserved historical site that attracts both tourists and scholars alike. Its history—from its construction and religious significance to its dramatic rescue and ongoing preservation—is a testimony to the enduring legacy of ancient Egypt. It remains a profound symbol of cultural resilience and the timeless appeal of Egypt’s rich history.
A visit to Philae offers a unique opportunity to walk through history and experience first-hand the blend of art, architecture, and spirituality that makes this extraordinary site so remarkable. The temple not only showcases the grandeur of ancient Egypt but also serves as a reminder of the technological and cultural achievements that continue to shape our understanding of the past.
At the end, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Hurghada.
