The Great Pyramids of Giza on the outskirts of Cairo are not only an architectural masterpiece but also a symbol of the grandeur of ancient Egyptian civilization. As the last surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the pyramids have fascinated scholars, tourists, and historians for centuries. They embody the peak of ancient Egyptian architectural skills and cultural achievements and remain a source of admiration and wonder.

The Egyptian Museum is one of the most important sights in Cairo. The foundation stone was laid on April 1, 1897, based on the designs of French architect Marcel Dorgnon. It was built during the reign of King Abbas Helmy II and opened in 1902. Construction took four years and eight months. The museum is the largest in the world dedicated to ancient Egyptian art. Day 4: The White Desert, English Mountain – Drive back to Cairo – Overnight in Hotel

After breakfast in the desert, continue your adventure.
The White Desert stretches over a 20 km strip. It is crossed by the road connecting Al-Bahariya and Al-Farafra. The entrance to this mineral-rich site is marked by a sparkling hill called “Crystal Mountain.”

Despite harsh conditions, the White Desert National Park is home to various wildlife. Visitors might spot the elusive sand fox or the jerboa hopping across the land. The area is also home to several bird species, including the majestic eagle. Vegetation is sparse but resilient; hardy plants such as the acacia thrive and provide important shelter and food for desert dwellers.

Then drive back to Cairo and overnight in the hotel.
Your guide will inform you about the pickup time for the next day.

Day 5: Saladin Citadel, Alabaster Mosque, Coptic Quarter, and Hanging Church – Transfer to Cairo Airport

Around 9 a.m., your guide will pick you up and you will drive with your private vehicle to the Saladin Citadel:

The Citadel of Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi (Saladin) is one of the most important monuments of Islamic Cairo and one of the most impressive medieval fortresses. Its strategic location on the Muqattam Hills gave it an excellent defensive position and still offers an unobstructed panoramic view of Cairo today.

The citadel witnessed some of the most important events in Egyptian history, from its construction until the end of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty, which ruled from the early 19th century until the 1952 revolution, when the modern Egyptian Republic was founded. Over the centuries, the citadel was expanded with numerous monuments, so today visitors can find a variety of sights such as the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, which dominates the citadel. Other attractions include the mosque of the Mamluk Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun, the Ottoman-era Sulayman Pasha al-Khadim Mosque, and several museums such as the Police Museum, Al-Jawhara Palace Museum, and the Military Museum.

Lunch:
After visiting the monuments, enjoy lunch in another local restaurant.

The Coptic Quarter:
Coptic Cairo, also known as mogama’ el adyan (interreligious complex), is an area unlike any other in Egypt. It is part of “Old Cairo”, the original city center for centuries – and Coptic Cairo with its fortress, churches, and synagogue is older than the actual foundation of Cairo by the Muslim Fatimids in 969 A.D.

The Hanging Church – Coptic Church of the Holy Virgin Mary
Built: 690 A.D.
The name “Hanging Church” (in Arabic “El Moallaqa”) was given due to its location above the gatehouse of the fortress. When it was built, the columns of the gatehouse were still clearly visible, making the church appear “hanging.” Today, however, it is buried due to ground elevation over the last 1,300 years.

The church is considered the first in Egypt built in the basilica style and houses 110 icons, most made of ebony and some inlaid with ivory, the oldest and most sacred dating back to the 8th century.

Transfer to Cairo Airport:
After visiting the Hanging Church, your guide will transfer you to Cairo Airport.
