The Karnak Temple:
The Karnak Temple, on the east bank of the Nile in modern Luxor, Egypt, is a lasting testament to the grandeur and architectural skills of the ancient Egyptians. With a history spanning more than 2,000 years, the Karnak Temple is one of the largest religious complexes ever built, serving as the epicenter of religious worship and political power during the heyday of the New Kingdom. This impressive site offers insight into the cultural, religious, and artistic achievements of ancient Egypt and captivates visitors from around the world.

The included Nile Cruise
After lunch, you will head to the Valley of the Kings, but before that, please enjoy our included Nile Cruise in Luxor for about one hour.

The Valley of the Kings
On the west bank of the Nile, in the arid landscape of Luxor, Egypt, lies a fascinating archaeological site known as the Valley of the Kings. For more than five centuries, from the 16th to the 11th century BC, this valley served as the final resting place for pharaohs, high officials, and members of the elite during the New Kingdom period of ancient Egypt. Its timeless appeal and historical significance have made it one of the most famous burial sites in the world, with magnificent tombs that have stood the test of time.

The Valley of the Kings was established during the reign of Thutmose I, who sought a more secure burial site protected from grave robbers. The remote valley, surrounded by barren hills, offered the necessary seclusion and natural protection to preserve the remains of pharaohs and their precious burial goods.

From the 16th to the 11th century BC, about 63 tombs were constructed in the valley. These tombs were elaborately designed and decorated to ensure a smooth journey into the afterlife for the deceased. Elaborate paintings, religious texts, and hieroglyphs adorned the walls, depicting scenes from Egyptian mythology, religious rituals, and the triumphs of the pharaoh. Belief in the afterlife and the divinity of the pharaoh guided the complex process of tomb construction and the inclusion of various grave goods.

Temple of Hatshepsut:
It is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved temples of ancient Egypt. The temple was built on three levels, with two wide ramps in the center connecting the levels.

At the end, you will visit the Colossi of Memnon.

Colossi of Memnon:
Two massive stone statues of King Amenhotep III are the only remains of a complete mortuary temple. The statues are made of quartzite sandstone blocks that stood in Cairo and were then transported 700 km to Luxor.

In the evening, you can enjoy an optional Sound and Light Show in Karnak: The show begins with a historical introduction about the birth of the great city of Thebes and the construction of Karnak Temple. The show tells of the glorious achievements of some great pharaohs while you listen to a magnificent and poetic description of the art treasures and great legacy contained in the Karnak Temple.
