Highlights of Nile Cruise Luxor Aswan

Description for Nile Cruise Luxor Aswan

First day - Arrival in Aswan

Sites: Philae Temple, High Dam, Unfinished Obelisk – Overnight on Board

You will be picked up from your hotel in Aswan and transferred to your Nile cruise ship. After embarkation and lunch, your guided tour will begin with visits to the Philae Temple, High Dam, and Unfinished Obelisk, plus a felucca ride around Elephantine Island.

Philae Temple:
Dedicated to the goddess Isis, Philae was the last temple built in classical Egyptian style. Construction began around 690 BC, and the temple remained one of the last active worship sites of the ancient gods.

High Dam:
Built between 1960 and 1971, the Aswan High Dam regulates Nile flooding and created Lake Nasser. It lies on the border between Egypt and Sudan and is considered a major engineering feat.

Unfinished Obelisk:
Located in the northern granite quarries of Aswan, this massive obelisk—had it been completed—would have weighed 1,168 tons. It offers great insights into ancient Egyptian stone-carving techniques.

Optional Nubian Village Visit:
Enjoy a 2-hour visit to a colorful and authentic Nubian village. Full of art, culture, and warm hospitality, it’s a unique experience worth your time in Aswan.

Second day - Abu Simbel Temples – Overnight on Board

Early morning departure around 3:00 AM by private air-conditioned vehicle to visit one of Egypt’s most iconic landmarks: Abu Simbel Temples (approx. 3 hours each way).

Abu Simbel Temples:
Carved into the mountainside by Ramses II around 1264 BC, the massive temple is renowned for its four seated colossi guarding the entrance. Inside, statues of Amun-Ra, Ra-Horakhty, Ptah, and a deified Ramses II reside. Twice a year—on February 22 and October 22—the sun’s rays penetrate the temple to light up these statues, a feat of architectural genius.

Temple of Nefertari:
This smaller rock-cut temple is dedicated to the goddess Hathor and Queen Nefertari, the great wife of Ramses II. Her statues are uniquely as tall as the king’s—an extraordinary gesture in ancient art.

Both temples were relocated in 1968 due to the construction of the High Dam and are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Third day - Kom Ombo & Edfu Temples – Overnight on Board

After breakfast, continue sailing to Kom Ombo and Edfu, accompanied by your Egyptologist guide.

Kom Ombo Temple:
Uniquely dedicated to two gods—Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus the Elder—this temple reflects the ancient Egyptian concept of duality. Its symmetrical design and well-preserved reliefs offer insight into religious life in ancient Egypt.

Edfu Temple:
Located on the Nile’s west bank, this Ptolemaic temple is one of Egypt’s best-preserved sanctuaries. Dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus, construction began under Ptolemy III in 237 BC and was completed over 180 years. Built on the site of an older temple, Edfu showcases incredible architectural grandeur and symbolic carvings.

Fourth day - Luxor

Sites: Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, Colossi of Memnon – Disembarkation

After breakfast, disembark and begin your guided tour of Luxor’s West and East Banks.

Karnak Temple:
One of the largest religious complexes ever built, Karnak served as a religious center for over 2,000 years. Expanded by many Pharaohs—like Ramses II and Hatshepsut—it was dedicated mainly to Amun-Ra. With massive columns, sacred lakes, and towering pylons, Karnak is an awe-inspiring site.

Valley of the Kings:
Located on Luxor’s west bank, this valley was the royal burial ground for New Kingdom pharaohs, including Tutankhamun. The tombs are decorated with vivid scenes from Egyptian mythology.

Hatshepsut Temple:
Rising from the desert in dramatic terraces, this mortuary temple honors Queen Hatshepsut, one of Egypt’s most powerful female rulers. Set against limestone cliffs, it’s one of Egypt’s most beautiful temples.

Colossi of Memnon:
These two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III once guarded his mortuary temple and remain as iconic markers of ancient Thebes.
