Description for Cairo and Nile Cruise – 11 Days Egypt Round Trip

First day

Your guide Memnon Reisen will meet you at Cairo International Airport. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Cairo (half board) in a private air-conditioned vehicle. If you have an early flight to Cairo, you can join an optional tour (Night Cairo). Overnight at the hotel.

Second day

Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Cairo for a great tour to the Pyramids of Giza (Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure). After that you will visit the Great Sphinx and Valley Temple.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Giza.
Then we will visit the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, the oldest large stone structure in the world. Then head to Memphis, which was founded by King Menes and was the capital of ancient Egypt during the Old Kingdom. There you will see a large statue of Ramses II and an alabaster sphinx. Toward evening we return to the hotel.

Third day

Today we will visit the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Tahrir Square. It features a rare collection of real artifacts dating back 5,000 years, including Tutankhamun’s exclusive exhibit, a collection of treasures, gold and jewels buried in his tomb. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Old Cairo. Enjoy a fantastic introductory tour of Cairo as we drive to the Saladin Citadel, built in the 12th century by Salah ad-Din on the hills of Mokattam to defend against the Crusaders. There we will visit the alabaster mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha.
(Then we visit the Hanging Church in Old Cairo, one of the oldest Coptic churches in Egypt.)
Continue to the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, one of the oldest bazaars in the Middle East. Discover the labyrinth of lanes that have been at the center of Cairo’s commercial activity since the 14th century.

Fourth day

Today we fly from Cairo to Luxor. We will drop you at Cairo Airport, meet you at Luxor Airport and then transfer you to your Nile cruise ship (full board) in a private air-conditioned van (or limousine). Our travel representative will help you with all formalities and “registration” on the ship.
After lunch, explore the city of Luxor on a fantastic horse-drawn carriage ride (optional). Overnight in Luxor.

Fifth day

After breakfast, start your magical journey through the West Bank of Luxor. You will visit the Valley of the Kings, which is considered the royal cemetery of the Theban kings, where the pharaohs were buried. Then visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari. This temple is considered one of the finest examples of ancient Egyptian architecture. At the end of the tour, see the Colossi of Memnon, which King Amenhotep III belonged to. After that, return to your ship. The ship departs for the Esna Lock and lunch is served en route. After the lock, transfer to Edfu and dinner. Overnight on board cruise to Edfu.

Sixth day

After breakfast on board, visit the Temple of Edfu, the best preserved temple in Egypt, dedicated to the falcon god Horus. The graffiti includes the myth of the struggle between Horus and Set. Lunch on board the Nile cruise during the cruise.

Seventh day

In the morning you will be expected on board tomorrow. Today you will discover the great city of Aswan, including the High Dam, built in 1960 to protect Egypt from the flooding of the Nile, with your Egyptologist guide. After that, take a motorboat to the island of Agilika, where you will visit the temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis, and, finally, visit the quarry with an unfinished obelisk.
After completing your day tour, return to your ship for lunch. In the afternoon visit to the Nubian village. You ride with your guide on a motorboat through the Nile Island and the Nile Falls and enjoy the beautiful scenery on the Nile. You will visit a Nubian family in the village.
Over tea and Nubian delicacies, the guide will talk about the customs and habits of the Nubians (optional).

Eighth day

Early in the morning we drive through Saharra to Abu Simbel (280km). Ramses built a large rock temple for the sun god Ra-Hur-Ahti and for his wife Nefertari, whom he made the goddess of beauty (optional).
Dine on the ship and then enjoy a leisurely felucca ride down the Nile to Lord Kitchener and the Botanic Gardens. Dinner on board.
