🌟 Karnak Temple Complex: The largest temple complex in the world – over 247 hectares, built over 2,000 years by numerous Pharaohs including Amenhotep III, Ramses II and Hatshepsut. The centrepiece is the Great Hypostyle Hall with 134 massive columns, the tallest reaching up to 24 metres high.
🍽️ Lunch at a local restaurant – included.
⚰️ Valley of the Kings: From the 16th to the 11th century BC, the final resting place of the New Kingdom Pharaohs – with over 63 elaborately decorated royal tombs, including the famous tomb of Tutankhamun.
👑 Hatshepsut Temple (Deir el-Bahari): Built on three levels connected by wide ramps – rising majestically from the desert plain and merging with the sheer limestone cliffs of the Theban Mountain.
🗿 Colossi of Memnon: Two colossal 18-metre statues of Amenhotep III – carved from quartzite sandstone blocks transported over 700 km from Cairo to Luxor.
⏰ Approx. 05:00 AM – Early morning pickup from your hotel in Aswan. Drive in a private air-conditioned vehicle to Abu Simbel – approx. 3 hours each way.
⛰️ Great Temple (Ramses II): Carved directly into the living rock in the 13th century BC – with four colossal seated statues on the façade. The sanctuary houses four deities: Amun Ra, Ra-Harakhty, Ptah and a deified version of Ramses II himself.
👑 Small Temple (Nefertari): Dedicated to the Goddess Hathor and Queen Nefertari – the colossal figures of the queen are the same size as those of her husband, a rare honour in ancient Egyptian art.
🍽️ Lunch in Aswan – included.
🍳 Breakfast at the hotel – included. Pickup by your Egyptologist.
🏛️ Philae Temple (Temple of Isis): Dedicated to the Goddess Isis – the last temple built in the classical Egyptian style, construction began around 690 BC. Rescued from rising Nile waters and relocated to the island of Agilika following the construction of the High Dam.
🌊 Aswan High Dam: One of the greatest engineering achievements of the 20th century – built between 1960 and 1968, inaugurated in 1971 under President Gamal Abdel Nasser. Creates the vast Lake Nasser and generates enormous amounts of hydroelectric power for Egypt.
🪨 Unfinished Obelisk: Nearly 42 metres long, estimated weight 1,168 tonnes – would have been the largest obelisk ever created. Cracks in the granite prevented its completion. A fascinating insight into the stone-carving techniques of the ancient Egyptians.
