Hurghada Sightseeing | The Top Things to Do and See in Hurghada
Hurghada is a city of divers. This city originated from a simple fishing village, where oil workers were primarily looking for luck. Gradually divers came who made the rich underwater world famous and thus attracted tourism.
But besides the fantastic underwater world, there are many other attractions in Hurghada to discover on land.
Here are the most popular attractions in Hurghada:
Hurghada Grand Aquarium
Another attraction of Hurghada is the Big Aquarium in Magawish. If you make an appointment, you can even dive with sharks here.
And for the little ones – but also for the big ones – there is a unique glass tunnel that you can walk through and that gives you the feeling of being underwater. Here you can experience the colorful splendor of the Red Sea with its coral reefs and variety of fish.
Hurghada Museum - Discover Egypt's Monuments
We come to another new attraction in Hurghada – the Hurghada Museum with some exhibits of Egyptian history.
It was recently built and opened in 2020. Of course, it is smaller than the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, but it is still worth a visit.
Hurghada’s small aquarium in Dahar is just as beautiful and recently renovated. There are not many species of fish here, but it is definitely worth a visit.
As for El Souk in El Dahar, which is located in the real old city of Hurghada, it should be said: if you love to trade, you can get everything from clothes to spices and other souvenirs here. Of course, you can do this without taking any action. Enjoy the oriental flavor here and let yourself be persuaded to buy this or that souvenir.
There is a vegetable and fruit market opposite the bazaar. In addition to fruits and vegetables, you can also buy fish, meat and bread here. Here the visitor meets the locals who shop here weekly.
El Dahar also has the Coptic Church of St. Shenouda, which is 100 years old. It was demolished and rebuilt in 2008 because it was too small for the Christians living here. The interior is decorated in bright colors and is open to visitors.
Another attraction of Hurghada in El-Dahar is the old mosque, which has long been considered a landmark in Hurghada. It is called the Abdel Moneim Riyadh Mosque, and if you are allowed to look inside, you will be rewarded with bright light and artistic brilliance. This mosque was built from sandstone around 1980.
If you return to the sea or in the direction of Sekkal, then from afar you can see the double minarets of the new mosque El Mina Masjid. Women are asked to wear typical clothing and head coverings before they and their companions are allowed to enter the premises. The mosque is open to visitors outside of prayer hours.
If you go to the left of it in the direction of the old tourist harbor, you will come to a small shipyard, where boats are repaired or rebuilt. This is definitely interesting to both the one and the other visitor.
To the right of the mosque is a fish market, as old as Hurghada itself. It is worth visiting for a while before continuing on to the new marina, which practically adjoins it. Those who love yachts and boats can afford to wander. Sometimes you can see really exceptional yachts. And numerous restaurants and cafes invite you to stay. It also offers diving tours and glass bottom boat trips.
This is where our trip to the sights of Hurghada ends.
